GQ again at 18:30. Five planes shot down out of seven. Looks like this will go on all night. The Intrepid had a close miss by a bomb from a high altitude bomber.

Open in the diary →Had more trouble than we expected. At 0100 we were attacked by suicide dive bombers. Our ship shot one plane down. The other ships shot down eight. The carriers Intrepid was by hit by three suiciders. The carriers Hancock and Cabot had close calls. Other task group was hit also.
